The HoustonPBS Elevate Lecture Series welcomes veteran PBS newsman, Jim Lehrer to Houston on Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at the Omni Houston Galleria Hotel. Lehrer recently announced that he is stepping down as anchor of The NewsHour, a television program he started with former co-anchor, Robert MacNeil over three decades ago.

Lehrer has moderated eleven nationally televised presidential debates and is the author of 20 novels, two memoirs and three plays.  His next book, a non-fiction work about the presidential debates, titled Tension City will be published by Random House in September 2011.

“We’re thrilled to be giving Houstonians the opportunity to spend an evening with one of the most respected newsmen in the country, especially on the eve of his retirement,” says HoustonPBS producer, Ernie Manouse, who will serve as host and moderator for the evening. “These are interesting times and we anticipate a lively discussion between Mr. Lehrer and the audience.”

Tickets for the HoustonPBS Elevate Lecture Series featuring Jim Lehrer are $25 for general admission and $75 for a special reception with Jim Lehrer and admission to the lecture. Visit support.houstonpbs.org/events or call (713) 743-8459 to purchase tickets.

The HoustonPBS Elevate Lecture Series is presented by the John P. McGovern Foundation and the Jim Lehrer event is supported by Shell.
