Every Friday night at 8 p.m., starting October 7 and running until November 4, the League of Women Voters of the Houston Area, Houston Media Source and HoustonPBS present The Houston Debates: 2011 City Municipal Elections. HoustonPBS, which is airing the series, is committed to providing the community with resources which encourage an informed choice on Election Day.
“We all believe that the Municipal Candidate Debate Series is an important element of what we do at Channel 8 and the series fits perfectly with our mission to empower, engage and enrich our viewers,” says HoustonPBS producer Ernie Manouse, who will serve as moderator for all the debates.
Each debate will focus on a different city race, with the final debate featuring candidates for the office of Mayor of Houston. Additional debates are currently airing on the HoustonPBS digital channel 8.2.
Prior to each debate Gary Polland and David Jones of the HoustonPBS series, Red, White & Blue, will host an in-depth preview and return following the debates with a brief summation.
