Houston’s new mayor wants changes to Shepherd-Durham redesign, putting part of project at risk

The administration of new Houston Mayor John Whitmire, who expressed support for the streets overhaul as a state senator in 2019, is holding up the start of Phase 2 construction because it wants the project to no longer include a reduction in vehicle lanes. The first phase of the Heights infrastructure initiative is nearing completion and will be unaffected by the decision.
