SPELLERS
- Spellers Participate Through Schools.
Check with your school to see if your school is enrolled and get information about your school bee.
If your school is not enrolled, ask them to enroll and participate this year. - Speller Eligibility
Spellers must not be over 16 and not beyond the 8th grade. Complete information about eligibility is here.
School Bees (Fall 2011)
- Your school spelling bee coordinator or teacher will distribute lists of study words and school spelling bee information.
- The words for the early round(s) of the school spelling bee are selected from the school study word lists.
- The words for later rounds of the school spelling bee are selected from the dictionary and are not on any study list.
- Spellers may ask for the following: repeat the word; definition; sentence; part of speech; language of origin; alternate pronunciation.

- School champions win entry into their School District/Regional Spelling Bees.
School District Bees/Regional Bees (February 2012)
- Your school spelling bee coordinator or your teacher will distribute lists of study words, including a copy of "Spell-It", and district/regional spelling bee information.
- The words for the early round(s) of the district/regional spelling bee are selected from the school study word lists.
- The words for middle round(s) of the district/regional spelling bee are selected from "Spell-It".
- The words for later round(s) of the district/regional spelling bee are selected from the dictionary and are not on any study list.
- Spellers may ask for the following: repeat the word; definition; sentence; part of speech; language of origin; alternate pronunciation.

- The words for early round(s) of the HoustonPBS Spelling Bee are selected from "Spell-It".
- The words for later round(s) of the HoustonPBS Spelling Beeare selected from the dictionary and are not on any study list.
