DOMINIC WALSH began dancing in Elgin, Illinois with Lisa Boehm. He joined the Houston ballet in 1989, and danced there until 2004. During that time he rose to principal dancer by 1996, and danced all around the globe receiving praise from national and international critics. He danced all the classics such as Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Romeo & Juliet, and Manon with international stars such as Nina Ananiashvili and Alessandra Ferri. He also danced all the contemporary repertoire and had many ballets created for him.
Some of the most influential choreographers include Jiri Kylian, Christopher Bruce, Nacho Duato, Natalie Weir, William Forsythe, Kenneth Macmillan and George Balanchine. In 1998, he created flames of Eros, when Ben Stevenson invited him to choreograph on Houston Ballet. This work won the Choo-san Goh award for choreography. He created three more works for Houston ballet and Houston ballet academy and continues to set and create works for other companies most recently including ballet Florida, ABT Studio Company, and Asami Maki ballet Tokyo. In 2002, he formed Dominic Walsh Dance Theater. Following the company’s world premiere performance, dance magazine stated “at last Houston has a contemporary dance company on par with its symphony, opera, and ballet companies."
In May 2006, Mr. Walsh created Romeo & Juliet, his first full-length, multi-sensory production. At the conclusion of the world premiere performance, the house instantly rose to their feet with thunderous applause and again, Mr. Walsh’s work received praise from dance magazine. In March 2007, Mr. Walsh will premiere a new full-length ballet, Orfeo Ed Euridice for new national theatre, Tokyo. |
MAURO BIGONZETTI was born in Rome and directly entered the city’s company after graduating from the opera’s school. After ten years of activity in rome’s opera, he joined Aterballetto under the artistic direction of Amedeo Amodio and performed all of the company’s repertoire. The most significant collaborations of this period were those with Alvin Ailey, Glen Tetley, William Forsythe, and Jennifer Muller. He also danced in many works by george balanchine and leonide massine. In 1990, mr. Bigonzetti created his first work, Sei In Movimento set to music by J.S. Bach, which made its debut at the Teatro Sociale in Grassina. During the 1992-93 season, he left Aterballetto and became a freelance choreographer. During this time, he began an intense collaboration with the Balletto Di Toscana, a source, in those years, of many Italian choreographers.
Afterwards, the most important collaborations were with the following international companies: English National Ballet London, Ballet National Marseille, Stuttgart Ballet, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Staatsoper Dresden, Ballet Teatro Argentino, Balè Da Cidade De Sao Paulo, Ballet Gulbenkian Lisbon, New York City Ballet, State Ballet Ankara, and Ballet Du Capitole Toulouse. He also created ballets for many Italian companies including Teatro Alla Scala Milan, Opera Rome, Arena Verona, and Teatro San Carlo Naples. For many of his creations, Mr. Bigonzetti collaborated with artists such as Claudio Parmiggiani, Fabrizio Plessi, Bruno Moretti, Elvis Costello, Danilo Grassi, Guglielmo Capone, Millar & Swandale, Roberto Tirelli, Fabrizio Montecchi, Nicola Lusuardi, Paride Bonetta, Helena Medeiros, Paolo Calafiore, Carlo Cerri, Beni Montresor, Massimo Castri, And Lucia Socci.
In 1997, he became artistic director and principal choreographer of Compagnia Aterballetto under the chairmanship of Federico Grilli, with whom he collaborated to build a new repertoire and a new company. His most important works that are presented in major theaters around the world are songs, Persephassa, Furia Corporis, Comoedia Canti, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Cantata, Rossini Cards, Vespro, Les Noces, Psappha, Wam and Romeo and Juliet. |
LUCIA GEPPI was born in Florence, Italy in 1965. She began her training at the age of eight at Centro Studi Danza Di Firenze directed by Cristina Bozzolini and Lilia bertelli. At the age of 18, she was part of the ensemble group of Micha Van Hoecke, who created roles for Ms. Geppi to demonstrate her strong technique, personality, and her very specific figure. She danced with the ensemble in all of the national and international productions including television shows. From 1994 to 1998, Ms. Geppi was the ballet mistress of the ensemble group of Micha Van Hoecke and from 1998 to 2004, she was the ballet mistress of Aterballetto directed by Mauro Bigonzetti. During those years, she worked as assistant to the choreographer for Mauro Bigonzetti, Fabrizio Monteverdi, Cristian Spuck, Jiri Kylian, Itzik Galili, And William Forsythe. In 1999, Ms. Geppi went to arena di verona as a guest ballet mistress and in 2002, she was a guest ballet mistress for Balletto Di Toscana and Teatro Massimo Di Palermo. In 2005, Ms. Geppi was a guest ballet mistress for Teatro Comunale Di Firenze, Teatro San Carlo Di Napoli, Aterballetto, and Les Ballet De Montecarlo.

CHRISTINA GIANNELLI first worked with Mr. Walsh at Houston Ballet, where she has been the resident lighting designer for many years. A native New Yorker, she moved to Houston in 1986, to work for the Houston Grand Opera. Since then, she has worked as a lighting designer for all of the “majors” and many of the “minors” in Houston’s performing arts community. Her work in opera and ballet lighting design has taken her around the world and she has gained national recognition. As founder and director of dance source, she is firmly committed to furthering the growth and development of the arts in Houston, and has served on the boards of Zocalo Artists Yard, Infernal Bridegroom Productions, and DiverseWorks artists board. |
NICHOLAS PHILLIPS was featured as the youngest of lighting Dimensions magazine’s “Ten Top Under Thirty Professionals Shaping The Lighting Industry” in July 2004, at just twenty-one years old. He is an award-winning designer with credits at such dance companies as American Ballet Theater, Houston Ballet, and Miami City Ballet. His second work for Washington Ballet garnered the metro dc dance award for excellence in stage design for try McIntyre’s Rite Of Spring at the Kennedy Center. Projects outside of dance include the 2006 world congress on information technology, The Fabulous Thunderbirds Television Special for HD net, and the associate design of Disney’s Finding Nemo The Musical. Mr. Phillips has designed several world premieres for Dominic Walsh including his full-length Romeo & Juliet. |
