Rebuilding Our Commitment to Low Income Housing

Guests:
Mayor Joe Jaworski, City of Galveston
Edward L. Pringle, Sr., PhD, Field Office Director, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Representative Debbie Riddle, Texas House of Representatives, District 150

For the most part, we are a compassionate people…  But what happens when we are faced with those who “have not?”  Just like so many communities in our country, Galveston is currently dealing with an issue of rebuilding and replacing low income housing destroyed by Hurricane Ike.  This current situation has led us to ask, whose responsibility is it to care for those who do not have, or cannot afford, reasonable housing?  What programs are in place to help the homeless?  What is the cost of all this aid to our citizens and community?  And what of the fear, anger and confusion that is tied to this difficult situation?  This week on Houston 8, who is helping the homeless?
