Taping for the Blind/SAP
HoustonPBS is one of few stations in the market to take advantage of the range of possibilities in the Second Audio Program technology. The SAP Channel, which individuals can access using a feature available on most stereo tv receivers allows HoustonPBS to carry Houston Taping for the Blind, occasional alternative language versions of some programs and also allows for the description of some programs for vision-impaired viewers. Most described programs are done by the Descriptive Video Service (DVS).

What is Distance Education ?
Distance education is currently being provided by Channel 8 to service college students in the Gulf Coast region. In addition to courses provided by the University of Houston, the Gulf Coast Consortium of Community Colleges (GCCCC) offers several courses for credit. The colleges include Houston Community College, North Harris, Galveston, Lee, College of the Mainland, Brazos, and Wharton Community colleges.
