A Place of Our Own / Los Niños en su Casa Workshops Based on the daily television series A Place of Our Own, this FREE workshop for adults focuses on developing children's language and literacy skills. This month's theme will be announced shortly and will include clips from the children's program, Sid, The Science Kid. Participants will receive a Workshop Caregiver Kit complete with episode DVD, activity cards and a children's book.

A Place of Our Own Los Niños en su Casa M-F 12:30 p.m. L-V 5:00 a.m.
Join HoustonPBS in welcoming one of the newest resources available to child care providers. A Place of Our Own and it's Spanish counterpart, Los Niños en su Casa make up a daily television series, a website, and an extensive outreach program devoted to the unique needs of people who care for children. Both programs share ways for us all to help children acquire cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills, as well as nurture language and literacy development.

Talleres de los Ninos en su Casa basado en una serie de televisión diaria extensivo dedicado al desarrollo del lenguaje y la alfabetización, la leccion de este mes es creando un ambiente lleno de la palabra impressa y va a incluir segmentos del programa, Los Ninos en su Casa, y tambien unos de nuestros programas infatiles, Sid, El nino cientifico. El tema de este mes es resolviendo conflictos. Participantes recibiran un paquete del taller para cuidadores, un DVD del episodio que vieron, y tambien cartas de actividad y un libro de ninos.

The Cat in The Hat Knows A Lot About That Story Times Visit your favorite library in the Harris County Public Library, Houston Public Library, Brazoria County Library System, Fort Bend County Libraries, Montgomery County Memorial Library System, Bellaire Public Library and Baytown Public Library from August 30 through September 11 to enjoy a story time featuring The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That, a new HoustonPBS program designed to spark a love of learning and an interest in science.

The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That begins airing Monday through Friday on September 6 at 7:30 A.M and 1:30 P.M. and Sundays at 6:30 A.M. on HoustonPBS.
 PBS KIDS GO! Writing Contest!!! The Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest has a new name! The contest deadline is open to all Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade authors and artists. The HoustonPBS 2010 Contest deadline was March 15. Info for the 2011 contest will be on the website January 2011. Congratulations to 2010 1st grader, Evan Kerr, for winning the high honor of placing 3rd place nationally out of over 25,000 entries.
