Programming for PBSKids! HoustonPBS is thrilled to feature three shows airing on our children's weekday line up. Super WHY!, Word World and Word Girl all provide entertaining education about literacy. Learn a little about each program below.
Super WHY! Weekdays, 8-8:30 a.m.With a breakthrough interactive approach to reading education, classic fairytales with an innovative preschool twist and colorful and empowering young heroes, Super WHY! is created to help kids learn the fundamentals of reading through interactive storybook adventures. The Super Readers jump into books (literally) to find answers to everyday preschool challenges and embark on exciting adventures, where they play interactive reading games to overcome obstacles and save the day. Word World Weekdays, 10:30-11 a.m.
Imagine a beautiful world where words come alive! It’s a word-rich place where friends meet challenges through WordPlay. Three to five year-olds watch WordFriends™ save the day putting letters together to make words that morph into real, live things! Visit the Word World website.
Word Girl...to the definition rescue! Fridays, 3:30-4 p.m.
The Amazing Colossal Adventures of WordGirl is a new animated series that follows the every day life and superhero adventures of “WordGirl” as she fights crime and enriches vocabulary usage, all in a day’s work. Each episode introduces between two and four new vocabulary words and will reinforce their meaning in a variety of contexts throughout the episode. WordGirl enriches young audiences’ vocabulary, closes the gap for those who don’t grow up in language-rich environments, instills a love of language, and fosters better reading comprehension.
