Smith lends her wisdom and expertise by discussing and demonstrating proper dining, phone, social, hosting, and international as well as domestic business etiquette through her many workshops. Newton Hightower |
Newton Hightower is the founder and director of The Center for Anger Resolution, Inc. an organization devoted to helping mostly men with anger and relationship problems. A licensed psychotherapist for the past 30 years, Hightower overcame his own personal rage problems. Once the Director of the Baylor Family Medicine Counseling Center in Houston, and a current fellow of the American Group Psychotherapy Society, Newton developed his own method to help his clients and other therapists deal with anger effectively. Hightower is also the author of Anger Busting 101 and is a recognized expert on the subject. He speaks in national conferences, radio and television extensively. Nan Hall Linke |
Nan Hall Linke is a trained marriage and family counselor and a sought-after astrologist. She received her B.A. from the School if International Service at American University, Washington DC and her M.A. in Behavioral Science from the University of Houston, Clear Lake. She began her counseling practice in 1971, using a combination of astrology, family of origin therapy, Jungian theory, dreams and rituals to help individuals, couples and families with resolution of trauma and personal growth issues. Nan taught many years at the C.G. Jung Educational Center in Houston, Texas and has also spent years, researching, lecturing and writing on finding the right mate, communication skills, and personal growth through spirituality . Marilyn Gambrell |
Marilyn Gambrell is the founder of “ No More Victims,” a program for children of incarcerated parents in M.B. Smiley High School. A former parole officer and administrator for the state of Texas, Gambrell was galvanized to action after witnessing first hand the trauma that parental incarceration inflicted on children’s lives. Since the program’s inception in 2000, hundreds of kids have taken control of their lives under her leadership and mentorship. Gambrell is also the author of a series of books entitled Cherish the Child Within, a curriculum used by educators, professionals, and social workers entitled Child Within On Fire, and has recently completed a series of coloring books entitled My Feelings Are Real. She was portrayed by Jami Gertz in the Lifetime movie Fighting the Odds: The Marilyn Gambrell Story. Master Lam Quan |
Master Lam Quan was born in Saigon, Vietnam in 1965, the Year of the Fire Snake. Ten years later, Master Quan and his family moved to the United States where Quan attended and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1988. A few years after working as a customs inspector, Lam was chosen by Feng Shui Grandmaster Nguyen to continue the old lineage of masters from Vietnam. After seven years of full time study, he became Master Lam Quan in 2001. Lam Quan means “Rising Star.” He now runs his own non profit Feng Shui institute in Houston which offers free classes on the ancient tradition. He and his wife also own a Feng Shui shop, Feng shui Concepts. Judy Sevilla is one of the more experienced chronic back pain therapists in the country. Candy Perez Johnson is the co-founder and Executive Director of La Rosa Family Services, a non-profit organization committed to healing and preventing domestic abuse and violence. Under Johnson’s leadership La Rosa has enjoyed notable success through its unique methods and its emphasis on cultural sensitivity and family dynamics in dealing with its predominantly Hispanic families. Since 1995, attendance at La Rosa activities has totaled approximately 60,000 people, with over 180 family members receiving services each week. Johnson has also lent her domestic abuse wisdom and expertise on television and radio programs. Dr. Todd Swick |
Dr. Todd Swick is the Medical Director of the Houston Sleep Center and one of the leading certified sleep specialists in Texas. For the past 25 years he has helped thousands of people recover a normal habit of sleeping. Dr. Swick began his career in 1964 at age 15 when he won a national high school science fair prize. Always studious and determined, he was admitted to the prestigious Bronx Highschool of science where he discovered what he calls, “the ultimate machine” or more commonly known as, “the brain” and was featured on a CBS documentary for his scientific achievements and inventions. In 1982, his brilliant mechanical and scientific mind would lead him to the field of sleep medicine, which was quite unknown at the time. Kathleen Zabawa is the Secretary of a Lyme disease support group in Houston. A lyme disease sufferer and mother of three children with lyme disease, Zabawa maintains a positive attitude to find a cure so she and her family can live a normal life. From her extensive research she has discovered that there are few doctors who treat chronic Lyme disease in the United States and even those who do tend to have lyme disease themselves and are at risk of losing their licenses due to the controversy over the treatment. She has also found Lyme disease, believed to be transmitted only through infected ticks, may also be transmitted arguably through sexual contact and from mother to child. Teen sex educator and teacher, Marybelle Perez is an advocate for parents to teach their children about sex, love and relationships. As a child, her parents seldom spoke about sex and as a result she feels she made the wrong life choices and married young. A stellar student, she graduated from college and began to work as a teacher. Through her work with Houston area schools, she found students needed more than academics. To make the right decisions about sex and relationships, teenagers needed accurate, relevant and life saving information. So besides her work as a teacher, she spends her free time coaching parents and children on sex education. She encourages teens, as well as parents, to talk about sex openly and continuously so they can make better life changing decisions. Cath Conlon |
Cath Conlon is a Houston based environmentalist and has been involved in building environmentally friendly homes and businesses for 20 years. Conlon’s clients say, “She designs beyond what we are asking for, giving us something to grow into.” In 1990, Conlon established Blackwood Educational Land Institute and continues to serve as its Director. Created by Conlon, a certified permaculture designer and master gardener, Blackwood has been an important teaching tool for many schools, teachers and professionals. Numerous corporations and organizations have utilized Blackwood’s unique setting for team building, seminars, board meetings and training. Conlon is a graduate of the University of Houston with a B.S. in Art Education and a B.F.A. in Fiber and Sculpture/Ironworks.
